FAQ

  • How does Syncrum works?

Syncrum uses a P2P network in order to enable communication. This means that computers communicate directly, without the need for a central server. When you communicate via a P2P network, your computer is both the client and the server. It requests information from other computers (Client) and also makes information available to other computers (Server).

This makes connections and transfers much more efficient than conventional centralized methods.

  • What are the technical requirements for using Syncrum?

      • PC with Windows 2000, 2003, XP, Vista
      • 50 MB of free space on your hard drive
      • Internet access.
  • What type of Internet connection do I need?

Any type of Internet connection will work. A broadband connection (ADSL, cable) is not essential, but the quicker the connection, the faster transfers will be.

  • I want to add a contact. What should I do?

In the "Contacts" tab, click "New contact". A new window will open where you can enter your contact's email address. There are two possible scenarios:

    • The contact already has Syncrum installed: A window will pop up on your contact's system, inviting them to add you as a contact. Once they have accepted the invitation, they will be added to your contact list.
    • The contact does not have Syncrum installed: In this case, they will receive an email inviting them to join, along with a link to download Syncrum. Within this email, there will be a username and password for them to use with the application.
  • How do I synchronize a file with a contact?

Select the file which you want to synchronize, click the right button and choose "Share with Syncrum".

    • A window will then open with a list of your contacts, so you can choose who you want to share the file with.
    • Syncrum will open a window on your contact's system, inviting them to accept the connection and start sharing documents with you.
    • An invitation will be sent which must then be accepted.
  • How do I know that I am sharing documents and files?

At all times you can see files being shared. In the "Resources" tab, you can see the folders and files being shared, and also the people they are being shared with.

  • In a shared document, how do I know if changes have been made?

In the "Changes history" tab you can see the movement of folders and files being shared, the date any changes were made, who made them and access to the document as it was before each change.

  • If I move any of the folders or files which I have synchronized, will they still be updated?

No. If you move the location of folders or files which are synchronized, you will not receive updates for these folders/files.
